Magnetic displays systems

Hello! I'm planning to cover a wall with steel sheets and use magnetic fixtures on our next exhibition. Has anybody got recommendations as to what kind of sheet I should use? Specifically thickness? For an exhibition that is supposed to last for years and years...

Though this reply is way too late , I can thoroughly reccomend reading Gwen Spicer’s book “Magnetic Mounting System for Museums and Cultural Institutions” It is very well written , informative and well researched.

In addition the thicker the steel 3mm and above the better a magnet will hold , one can use galvanised steel or powder coated steel to prevent rust, with the potential to apply other paint surfaces. Any surface coating over the steel, or the object ,protective barrier between the object and the magnet, or protecting the magnet, will reduce the pull force of the magnet ,as will an irregular surface. Magnetic pull reduces to 1/3 the pull force, if the magnets are holding in the vertical plane.

Cheers
