We use DnJ Creations in Metal for our custom work. He can work from specs or a sketch if you don't know AutoCAD. Nice work not too expensive. Never used him for stainless, though.

Philip, Old thread but I'm sure I can help you find something.  Are you looking for half oval wire, half oval tube (channel), or some other shape?   If it's a commonly manufactured product, I likely have a source.  If it's custom, I'll be able to give you a good source as well.

Thank you, but I called them and the half oval that they carry is regular hot rolled mild steel.

RE: [mountmaking-forum] Re: Stainless steel half oval

Hi Jacob, this is what I am looking for without holes drilled in it: https://shop.hamiltonmarine.com/products/half-oval-304-stainless-steel-flat-back-43026.html

I can TIG weld the holes up and grind them flat.  I was just looking to see if it was available readymade.  Custom milling this profile would be costly.

Philip,This may sound crazy, but there's a company called A Metal Source in Cleveland that says they do 1/2 oval in a variety of metals including stainless.   https://ametalsource.com/half-oval-bars-available/ Never used them before, so let us know if you find that they are good or bad to work with -kenymarshall Keny  www.kenymarshall.com 412-251-4142

Well now, that’s a mighty interesting link you’ve got there Keny. I just used half of my last stick of 3/8” x 3/32” brass half oval and wondering where I’d ever find more. The thought of being able to have that shape in steel or other alloys is pretty exciting.  Thanks, Jamie

Everyone calls this "oval"...but it appears to just be a chord like shape.  Is it a true oval? Are you using 12' lengths, or cutting it down to 12, 1 foot lengths? What thickness and width are you using most commonly?   Is a flat back necessary?   Is a polished finish necessary, or just something that approaches cold rolled finish?   I assume 304 Stainless would be sufficient?   What are your average orders?
