I thought it might be fun to see photos of our favorite tools. I will start with our magnetic base third hands. I took a machinist magnetic base indicator holder McMaster part # 1958a31 and mounted a pair of self closing tweezers to it. The arms have a fine tuning knob that makes positioning small pieces more easily. The bases have about 130 lbs. of hold pressure so once you turn knob to the on position they won't move if you bump the base. I look forward to seeing some of your favorite tools.

Excellent! I like it. It has a good McGyver quality too. But am I seeing double or is it just the photo? Do your copper tongs really have 4 grabbers on them? Recently my favorite tool is the cordless Dremel stylus with a lithium ion battery. Very lightweight and comfortable to use.

Here is another one of our favorite tools. The Dynafile is a small belt sander that has several interchangeable ends. We mostly use it with Scotchbrite belts. It's great for cleaning up mounts.

That's pretty cool. Looks a bit dangerous to use, especially during a big push late at night, but then it keeps us on our toes. It looks like it would work great and a whole lot more portable than a bead blaster. Just where did you find the Dynafile anyway?

RE: [mountmaking-forum] Re: Favorite Tools I don't remember were I got it from. But you can find them online. The one that we have is the electric Dynfile II. They also make a pneumatic version but you better have a big compressor to run it. The pneumatic version has a stand with a small table that looks pretty cool. I have been thinking making one for ours. Philip

RE: [mountmaking-forum] Re: Dynafile Hi,
Thanks mucho- I had a dynafile about 10 years ago that was stolen on the road, and I never could remember where I got it or what it was called. . Here's the least expensive source I could find on line....

RE: [mountmaking-forum] Re: Dynafile The contact arm that we use the most is the one that is on the tool in the photo that I posted. Part # 11204, here is a link to it(not necessarily the best price): http://www.gizmosindustrial.com/servlet/the-25878/Detail

Re: [mountmaking-forum] Re: Favorite Tools Thanks for the information. I've been looking around and no luck so far. I did just see one being used on a bronze statue this evening on How It's Made too. It did a great job.

We make our own convertible art carts that can be used to carry paintings or objects. They would be good for smaller museums where the Art Handlers don’t specialize.
