howzit mounties...
Does anyone have any experience with cleaning and surface restoration of large scale outdoor bronze sculptures? What would you suggest for tools and materials

Find Stephen Tatti- he no doubt has the most direct and contemporary
way to finish big bronzes. I worked with him years ago, and we did
some big bronze sculptures in downtown D.C. When we cleaned and
finished the Fountain at the Library of Congress, we used sodium
bisulphate to wash down the bronze, which was really beginning to
green, and then a baking soda and clear water scrub/rinse, then liver
of sulfur patina, as I recall, to color the bronze. Then we used a
large tip propane torch to drive brown microcrystalline wax into the
surface... it was a beautiful finish, which I've used on sculptures
from 6 inches to fifteen feet.
Good luck in your endeavor,
Bradley
