Through a conservator colleague of mine I was advise not to use the instapak for long term. Since it is polyurethane foam even if it is encapsulated the of gassing can affect the structure of the bone. Also it will break down over time rendering it inefficient for support. It is great for short term, one time use, transportation purpose.
