I need to make a storage mount for a mammoth tibia, I would like it to make it as form fitting as possible and carving out ethafoam although probably the best way it is also a bit challenging.
I'm considering the instapak but I would like to know if there will be any issues with off gassing and affecting the bone, which is partially fossilized.
Through a conservator colleague of mine I was advise not to use the instapak for long term. Since it is polyurethane foam even if it is encapsulated the of gassing can affect the structure of the bone. Also it will break down over time rendering it inefficient for support. It is great for short term, one time use, transportation purpose.
